Center for Science and Computation
The Gabrielle H. Reem and Herbert J. Kayden Center for Science and Computation—a state-of-the-art, 70,000-square-foot
science facility—opened in 2007 and is home to the Biology, Chemistry, and Computer Science Programs. The center was
awarded an AIA New York State Citation for design. Ashley Mechanical, Inc. installed state of the art ventilation including
an advanced energy recovery system through which all exhaust air from the building passes. Ashley Mechanical, Inc. was also responsible for all
plumbing and ductwork. The entire building features a closed loop geothermal heating and cooling system and water to water heat pumps.

The construction of the Science Center was completed in two phases. The first phase included a 49,000-square-foot
structure. This provided space for the biology, computer science, and mathematics departments in a facility equipped
with state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories, high-tech classrooms, and a sixty-person auditorium. Ashley Mechanical, Inc. worked
together with Daniel O’Connell & Son’s during construction and was responsible for $3.4 Million Dollars worth of installations.
The second phase of the Science and Computation Center, a 20,000-square-foot chemistry extension, continued
the formal extrusion and building organization to the south, strengthening and enhancing the project’s initial concept.
Once again, Ashley Mechanical, Inc. worked alongside Daniel O’Connell & Sons and completed $4.3 Million Dollars worth of Plumbing, Ventilation,
and HVAC ductwork and installation
The building also features the László Z. Bitó '60 Auditorium, an addition which Ashley Mechanical, Inc. completed with Kirchhoff-Consigli
Construction Management. Ashley Mechanical, Inc. was responsible for $1.8 Million Dollars of installations in the new addition.
